New car park at airport on track

Construction of Christchurch International Airport’s new 600-space, four-level car parking building is well under way and the building will be open in early November. The $13 million building is being erected in a section of the existing public car park.

Construction of the entrance and exit ramps is currently under way, which has reduced the number of public car parks available to the public. A large amount of additional parking is available in Public Car Park 2, to the north of the main public car park. Car Park 2 is accessible by continuing around the roundabout to the next exit, instead of using the usual straight-ahead exit, and following the signage to Public Car Park 2. People are being asked to allow additional time when using the airport car park during this construction stage. The airport’s Carpark Ambassador team will be available over extended hours to ensure assistance is available.

Access to the airport, including the drop-off area, has not changed. There are still two entrances to the main car park – one before the construction zone and one after.
