John Pascoe photos on show at Our City
The wonder of New Zealand childhood in the mid-20th century is explored in this exhibition by well-known photographer John Pascoe, whose work expresses the joy he evidently felt in his children’s presence and to convey their joy of living.
Songs of Innocence focuses mainly on Pascoe’s extensive documentation of his four daughters’ lives throughout the 1940s and ‘50s, from babyhood to their early teenage years.
John Pascoe was born and educated in Christchurch and is well known for his photography documenting New Zealand for the Department of Internal Affairs between the late 1930s and the mid-1940s and for his recording of New Zealand in wartime.
This Our City exhibition runs until 21 October and was developed by Mahara Gallery, Waikanae, curated by Janet Bayly and toured by Exhibition Services Ltd.
- Our City O-Tautahi is a City Council community exhibition and venue space on the corner of Oxford Tce and Worcester Blvd, by the Worcester St bridge. Exhibitions are open 10am- 4pm, Mon-Sat, and admission is free.
