Showbiz Christchurch $75,000
Operating costs. Employs a large number of theatre professionals and offers opportunities to both performers and stage crew.
Christchurch Symphony Orchestra $300,000
Operating costs. Grant includes the pro-vision of performances at the Council’s two major outdoor events in Hagley Park.
The Court Theatre $85,000
Annual operating costs. One of the key professional performing arts organisa-tions in Christchurch.
Ferrymead Historic Park $160,000
Operating costs. Highlights last year were the launch of the National Railway Museum project, completion of the new aircraft restoration hangar, additions to the Telecom communications museum.
Music Centre Of Christchurch $6000
The centre is home to the Christchurch School of Music, Christchurch City Choir, The Choir and Orchestra of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Trinity College of Music.
Tramway Historical Soc. $10,000
For assistance with the conservation/restoration and re-assembly of the Ferrymead Heritage Lift Bridge.
Recreation & Sport
Bowls Canterbury (Inc) $30,000
To move to a new administration and training facility and establish a coaching and training academy.
Badminton Canterbury $800
This grant is to go towards the interest costs on their CCC community loan, which was given to help repair stadium roof.
Canterbury Car Club Inc $70,000
Ruapuna Motorsport Park enhancement project, including the re-sealing of the track and upgrading of the fencing and safety wall.
Canterbury Hockey Assn $4000
Assistance with interest on Council loan.
Canterbury Tennis Inc $50,000
Annual operating costs. Contributes to the health and well-being of over 40,000 adults in Canterbury who play tennis.
Canterbury Shooting Fed $40,000
For the rebuilding and safety-proofing of the existing range facilities to enable the continuation of their use.
Surf Life Saving Canterbury $136,020
Professional Lifeguard Programme – for paid lifeguard patrols (Monday to Friday & statutory holidays) at the city beaches over the summer season (Taylors Mistake, Sumner and Scarborough, South Brighton, New Brighton, North Beach, Waimairi and Spencer Park).
Surf Life Saving Canterbury $35,000
Assistance with equipment and oper-ating costs for volunteer patrols – In addition to week day patrols, surf clubs operate volunteer patrols in the week-ends (some 8000 volunteer hours for public safety).
Canterbury Coastguard Inc $10,000
Operating costs. Over the last year the Coastguard has attended 85 calls for assistance and brought 220 people to safety.
NZ Academy of Sport $20,000
Operational costs. The Academy’s main role is to provide high performance programmes and services for coaches and athletes at a national, regional and increasingly local level.
Parafed Canterbury $11,000
Volunteer expenses, gym instructor & pool supervisor costs – Parafed offers the most specialized gym for people with disabilities in NZ. It allows those in wheelchairs to be able to take part in a fitness programme using especially designed gym equipment.
Sumner Lifeboat Institution $33,000
For building & slipway maintenance and electrical/insurance costs.
Swimming Canterbury $47,230
For purchase of a new swimming timing system to use at their meetings primarily at QEII pool. Without this equipment QEII pool cannot be used for regional, national or international swim meets.
