New CEO for city venues

Christchurch businessman Bryan Pearson has been appointed chief executive of Vbase Venue Management Group, the company which runs the Convention Centre, Westpac Centre for Sport and Entertainment, the Town Hall and Jade Stadium.

Last year, management of the four venues was brought together when a City Council company took a 50% share in the venue management company previously known as NCC (NZ) Ltd. In September the company name was changed to Vbase.

Vbase board chairman Bruce Irvine says Mr Pearson brings high-level business skills to the company. "He has excellent strategic planning skills, proven business development acumen, a private enterprise performance focus and expertise in change leadership," Mr Irvine says.

"We're now well positioned to take this organisation forward into new areas, with strategic management of a unique combination of assets," Mr Irvine says.

Mr Pearson (42) is non executive chairman of Swanndri NZ and a non executive director of J Ballantyne & Co and will retain these roles. Mr Pearson began his career in Christchurch and has had senior corporate roles with an international focus in the apparel and retail sectors in New Zealand and Australia. Before returning to Christchurch in 2003 to pursue private business interests, he was a general manager with Sydney-based Pacific Brands.

Mr Irvine thanked finance and administration director Brent Ford for his "positive and capable leadership" as acting chief executive since December.
