Classical Sparks to mark merger

Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks — in North Hagley Park on Saturday night, 4 March — is an opportunity for the residents of Banks Peninsula and Christchurch City to celebrate the merger of their districts, and the Council is making it easier for Banks Peninsula residents to attend on the night.

Leaving Akaroa Post Office at 4.30pm on Saturday, 4 March, is a free bus service which will also make pickups at Duvauchelle Store, Barry's Bay Cheese Factory and the Little River Post Office. Numbers are strictly limited and must be made through the Akaroa Service Centre by either dropping in or calling 03-304-7701.

The return service will depart from Christchurch at 9.45pm.

As well, people from Lyttelton/Diamond Harbour will be able to take the #28 Lyttelton bus from Lyttelton and be dropped off just a block from the venue in North Hagley Park. On the night, there will be an extra ferry sailing from Lyttelton at 10.30pm. The regular 10pm and 11pm ferries will also sail.

The special opening tribute on the night, From the Depths Sound the Great Sea Gongs, will feature spectacular imagery of Banks Peninsula on the big screens, to celebrate the joining of the peninsula and city.

  • For more information about the #28 Lyttelton bus or ferry sailings, call metroinfo on 366-8855. For more about Rick Armstrong Motors Classical Sparks, look online at http://www.summertimes.co.nz/
