Central City South planning workshop

Future Directions is an urban planning and design workshop being held this month to focus on the central city south area — the area between Colombo, Lichfield and Madras streets and Moorhouse Avenue.

Running from 20-24 March, the workshop is an opportunity for landowners, developers and tenants to be involved in how this area is developed.

Maurice Roers, a senior planner at the City Council who is managing the project, says the workshop offers a practical, innovative and forward-looking approach to planning. It will be led by an internationally recognised design firm and promises to be both engaging and educational.

"As part of the City Council's ongoing commitment to the Central City, we're sponsoring this event in an effort to capitalise on the energy that is beginning to spark in this area," Mr Roers says. "We want to explore a broad range of issues and ideas while developing a guiding plan for this area."

Exciting changes are already taking place in and around Central City South, with increased residential living, retailing, and entertainment activities springing up within the Four Avenues.

This activity is best exemplified by the new development and investment taking place along High and Lichfield streets, including fashion boutiques, new fine dining and the night life found in Lichfield Lanes all testifying to the growing potential of this area.

  • The Council encourages anyone with an interest in this part of town to take part. There is no charge.
