Westburn School First In City To Start Travel Plan
Westburn School is the first City Council-sponsored school to encourage its staff, students and school community to think carefully about how they travel to and from school.
The school’s travel plan — a planned approach to improving road safety, reducing congestion, increasing physical activity and promoting alternative forms of transport — was launched last month.
The Westburn School Travel Plan is the result of extensive consultation with the school community and has been developed with the support of the Council and the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board.
It aims to promote practical alternatives to car travel for journeys to and from school, to help reduce traffic congestion and chaos at the school gate, and address safety concerns. The school hopes it will encourage children to be healthier and more active and that the scheme will help create a more pleasant environment and improve energy efficiency.
