Novel Way Of Making Message Stick
Ngaire, a Spreydon Library regular, grabbed the heaviest book at hand and pounced last month when she spotted the Mayor outside talking to Audrey Fergusson.
“If he and those councillors still weren’t listening I was going to use it to make my point,” Ngaire (centre) said.
Mr Moore made an appointment to meet and reassure Mrs Fergusson (at right), who was pretty angry after reading a newspaper report about library closures.
“We’ve heard the message,” Mr Moore told the pair. “We’ve had huge numbers of very passionate people coming to see us and calling and signing petitions, saying this idea about closing the small community libraries is wrong. The small libraries are staying and we’ll weave that into the planning we’re doing.” |
