Hills Track Closures

Unusually high rain and snow last month has forced the temporary closure of recreation tracks that start and exit from Bowenvale Valley on the Port Hills. Walking, running and mountain biking in this area can contribute to track erosion when it’s very wet, which increases sediment run-off into the valley stream.

As well,  a short, privately owned section of the track is used to feed cattle during winter.  The owners have asked that no access be granted through their land while they are feeding at this level because hay is getting mixed in the mud and wasted. The closure will be lifted when the landowners can feed stock on higher ground and when there is a general improvement in the tracks. The closures are clearly indicated at all entrance and exit points.
