Councils' UDS Charter Launched

Greater Christchurch UDS Forum chair Bob Parker (centre) presented (from left) Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore, Selwyn Mayor Michael McEvedy, acting Transit NZ Board chair Sir Tipene O'Regan, Environment Canterbury Councillor Robert Johnston and Waimakariri District Councillor Kath Adams with the Community Charter they agreed to adhere to as they draft the UDS Strategy.

The Charter for the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy (UDS) – the scheme forum’s contract with the community – was launched last month.

The UDS partners are the Selwyn and Waimakariri district councils, the City Council, the regional council ECan and Transit NZ. The UDS has been set up to prepare a strategy to manage expected growth in the area in and around the city.

The Charter is the contract between the partners and their communities, showing how they have listened to public feedback and explaining the general direction they plan to take as they begin to draft the strategy.

It is expected a draft version of this strategy will be available for public comment towards the end of the year. That input will be considered and the plan is to have the strategy finalised and launched by the Prime Minister around March next year.
