Balloons Mark Kidsfest Start

Children at Diamond Harbour School arrived to find their front lawn had been visited by the KidsFest team.

Christchurch awoke to the colour-filled delight of balloon gardens across the city on Thursday 29 June. Overnight, at 34 locations around Christchurch, our green spaces sprouted hundreds of balloons planted on stalks. The balloon gardens marked the start of the 15th TV2 KidsFest, the largest event just for kids in New Zealand. For the first time, locations included Banks Peninsula and Selwyn District, as well as traditional city parks and school grounds. Locations were chosen that helped to avoid the temptation for children to run across roads but the Council, nevertheless, asked parents to warn children about road rules first.

(Please note, this is the only time of year that the Council encourages the picking of "flowers" on Council property)
