Return to Monte Cassino
As part of commemorations for the Year of the Veteran, the Council's public exhibition space Our City O-Tautahi is host to an exhibition from 24 April26 May called Return to Monte Cassino. The display features a photographic essay by journalist Maree Wilks, who accompanied Southland war veterans to the 60th anniversary commemorations of the Battle for Monte Cassino in May, 2004. The exhibition will be expanded upon at Our City O-Tautahi with contributions of stories and objects from veterans in Christchurch and Canterbury. Additionally, the exhibition offers insight into the work of Rannerdale War Veteran Hospital and Home as it approaches its 50th anniversary celebrations. This exhibition was first hosted by the Southland Museum and Gallery.
