Glass art at the McDougall
The Glass Invitational NZ exhibition at the Robert McDougall Gallery at Canterbury Museum proves the point that objects of beauty lend magic to their surroundings.
When the City Council turned the former art gallery in the Botanic Gardens over to the museum, it was hoped it could be used to display quality arts and crafts and this free exhibition does just that, showcasing more than 60 pieces of work by 14 of New Zealand's foremost glass artists.
"The works on show are a survey of the major achievements and innovations in New Zealand glass art over the last two years," says exhibition curator Stephen Higginson.
Glass Invitational NZ is a touring exhibition held every two years. It is at the Robert McDougall Gallery until 20 November, with the doors open 10am-4pm.
Third-year students from CPIT's School of Art and Design will present their glass work in a complementary exhibition.
