Landfill gas to QEII qualifies for carbon credits
During the next year, the Council plans to pipe methane gathered from the Burwood site to the sport and leisure centre at QEII Park for use as a source of energy.
The project will cut down the amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere. The Government has advised the project qualifies for 200,000 carbon credits.
At present the QEII facility uses liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as the principal source of heating. The facility used more than 1.5 million litres last year.
The collection and management of gas and leachate will continue until they no longer pose a threat to the environment. |
