Feel like walking and talking in Halswell?

If you live in or near Halswell and want to be a bit more active, the Halswell Walk N Talk is a great way to kick-start your week.

It’s a guided local walk which runs every Monday at 10am. Every second Monday, the walk is followed by a stimulating talk – from DIY home-selling, to cleaning up Christchurch’s air, to sushi-making.

Walk N Talk is suitable for all ages, including parents with strollers. The walk is on the flat and lasts for about half an hour.

Halswell walker Jean Robertson joined the group over a year ago.

“It’s great because it brings together a group of like-minded people. It’s not always easy to get yourself motivated to go for a walk on your own, but we really enjoy starting our week together on a Monday morning, and the talks make it even more worthwhile.”

Local couple Narges and Manouchehr Khosraviani have just joined the session for the first time.

“We’ve really enjoyed it”, says Narges. “It’s a good way to meet so many interesting people, and to explore what’s on our doorstep. It’s a nice start to the day before we head off to work,” she says.

And there’s no need to book. Just turn up at Halswell Library, on the corner of Sparks and Halswell roads, Mondays at 10am during school terms. The organisers suggest you have suitable walking shoes and take a drink bottle. Parking is available at the library. Phone 941 6840 for further information.

There are also a number of other Walk N Talk sessions across the city each week, supported by Christchurch City Council’s Active Christchurch initiative.
