Update on community plan for Christchurch
The Council’s new draft community plan — Our Community Plan Christchurch OTautahi — was released last month for public comment. Although the consultation period on this year’s draft plan closed on 6 May, it is worth keeping in mind the process behind this important plan.

Cut in Council a challenge for all
Christchurch faces an exciting challenge now that the numbers of councillors the city is allowed has been halved.

The Local Government Commission has recently ruled that in future Christchurch will have 12 city councillors, rather than 24 as in the past and, of course, a mayor.

Submissions on Ocean Outfall heard
The City Council heard verbal submissions last month on what water quality and beach standards people expect when the city’s wastewater is piped out to sea.

Gallery turns one
One year on and with visitor numbers approaching twice the original estimate of 400,000, the Christchurch Art Gallery is preparing to celebrate an extremely successful first year.

Estuary plan comment sought
The recently held Estuary Relay in April marked the publication of the “Our Estuary” Ihutai Management Plan by the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust.
