Keeping litter where it belongs
In last month’s City Scene we included some tips on
how to create more space in your green recycling crate.
This month we’ve included some handy tips and
information about your rubbish and recycling collection,
which will also help prevent litter in your area.
Rubbish bags
- Reduce the risk of animals ripping your rubbish bags
open by placing them at the kerbside on the morning
of your collection day and not the night before. However, to ensure collection, make sure they’re out
no later than 7.30am
- Use only official Council
rubbish bags,
as
these
are
the
only
ones
which
will be
collected
- The price of official
rubbish bags includes the cost of collection and disposal of the bags so might be
more expensive than other bags
- Packs of rubbish bags can be bought from Council
service centres and supermarkets. Look for the Council logo on the red sticker.
Recycling
To prevent recycleable items blowing around your street;
- Squash your plastics and tins so the crate doesn’t
overflow
- Place all clean paper types and supermarket bags
inside a supermarket bag, tie the handles securely and
place on top of the crate
- Please ensure only recyclable items are put in the
green crate or they will not be collected
- If one recycling crate is not enough, you can collect
a second one for free from a Council service centre.
- Cut, flatten and tie pieces of corrugated cardboard
into crate-sized bundles to assist the handlers and
ensure collection
- Recycling information posters are now available in 11
languages. You can download these from our website.
