Get in touch with your political side If you have ever considered putting yourself forward for nomination at local body election time but don’t know enough about the processes involved, this is for you. Christchurch electoral officer Max Robertson says two free seminars about what is involved in being a Councillor or Community Board member are to be held in the Council Chamber, Civic Offices. The first seminar will be held from noon to 2pm on Friday, 16 July, and the second from 10am to noon on Saturday, 17 July. “As well as discussions on all the ins and outs involved in the election process, there will be presentations from a retiring Councillor and a former Community Board member to inform potential candidates on what is involved in these positions,” he says. At the conclusion of presentations, there will be a question and answer session to give attendees the opportunity to find out all they need to know about standing as a candidate at the local body elections. The elections will be held on Saturday, 9 October, but nominations close Friday, 20 August. It is important to have a full range of candidates, who truly reflect the face of Christchurch.
