Recognition for quiet achievers

Around the city there are many public-spirited people who spend time picking up litter on our streets, parks and walkways. Keep Christchurch Beautiful (KCB) acknowledges their efforts with its Litter Picker awards.

The KCB Campaign is a Council-funded voluntary community group which aims to promote a cleaner, more beautiful environment in the city and to raise awareness of what people can do to improve their community and reduce litter.

The Litter Picker awards have been running for two years and so far 38 people have been recognised. KCB is keen to hear about other people who help keep the city tidy and who deserve recognition.

“The award is a thank you for these people,” says the organiser, Geoff Parfitt. “They do it because they care, not for any kind of reward and the awards are our way of recognising their contribution to the city’s clean, green image.”

  • Send your Litter Picker nomination (include the person’s name and address and a brief description of their activity and area) to Geoff Parfitt, 24 Ayr Street, Riccarton.
  • More information about KCB is on the web, at www.ccc.govt.nz/KeepChristchurchBeautiful
