Over 60 events at this year’s Parenting Week, 13-22 Aug

Parenting Week has attracted an overwhelming response from the community again this year, with over 60 diverse events and activities for parents and parentsto- be taking place from 13 to 22 August.

Christchurch City Council has funded Parenting Week, an event special to Christchurch, since 2000, and it has grown in size and popularity since then. During Parenting Week, a programme of seminars, workshops and displays offer education, support and encouragement. The programme aims to give parents the confidence to deal with everyday parenting issues, and opportunities to learn new skills.

Marcella Herrera from Christchurch City Council’s Children’s and Youth Advocacy team, says that the focus of Parenting Week is to support parents in their role.

“Parenting is probably the toughest yet most rewarding job we will ever do,” she says. “Yet many parents often feel they’re on their own with very little support during those difficult times”.

Brochures with the Parenting Week programme are now available from City Council libraries and service centres or on the web at www.ccc.govt.nz/events/ParentingWeek/

Parenting Week is core funded by Christchurch City Council. It also receives funding and support from Lite FM and the Christchurch Star.
