Host Responsibility

Two New Brighton bars are the recipients of this year’s Burwood-Pegasus Community Board Host Responsibility Awards.

The awards idea came from a meeting in 2001 between local licenced premises managers and the board’s Sale of Liquor Act Subcommittee. As well as dealing with matters of concern, the meeting decided it would be a good idea to recognise and encourage operators demonstrating a high level of commitment to their social responsibilities as hosts and developing a sense of community.

The awards were decided after an inspection of the premises by subcommittee members. The judging criteria includes options for reasonably priced food and the display of information about gaming addiction.

This year’s award winners — Barnickels Bar on Marine Parade and the Kazbah on Bowhill Road in North New Brighton — were considered to be worthy recipients.
