Heathcote salt marsh

A third of the new waterway through Heathcote Valley Park has been completed and re-planting of the area has begun. Among the plants that will be re-established on the site is the native salt marsh species Sarcocornia quinqueflora (Glasswort).

Much of the planting will be completed in the next three or four weeks. The rest will be staged because of the large number of plants required, according to Christchurch City Council landscape architect Jocelyn Mahoney. As well as adding to local aesthetics, the waterway will carry the increasing amount of stormwater from nearby hillside properties out of the area.
