Community boards present local service, youth awards 2004 The Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board hosted a function recently for recipients of its 2004 Community Service and Youth Awards. This year there were 13 recipients — 10 for Community Service Awards and three for Youth Awards. The Community Service Awards acknowledged voluntary dedication covering involvement in Guiding, long-term membership of various community committees, working at the Cathedral Square Police Kiosk, driving for Foundation for the Blind, houseparenting, long-term commitment to a neighbourhood association, foundation member of Country Women’s Institute and work in the area of Adult Special Needs. Youth Awards acknowledged voluntary effort in youth leadership and involvement as a Brownie leader. The Riccar ton-Wigram Community Board last month presented its annual Community Service Awards to 20 recipients. The awards acknowledge outstanding voluntary service by individuals or groups whose effor ts benefit residents or organisations in the board area. They recognise effort in areas such as physical well-being, children, youth and education. This year’s 20 recipients were given a framed certificate and a book. They are: Michael Greene, Geoff Parfitt, Mave Down, Joan Fazackerley, Helen Mazlin, Matthew Currie, the volunteer drivers of the Riccar ton Community Care Society, Agnes Trinnaman, Hazel Hopgood, Irene Coman, Elsie Spink, Noel Hopgood, Elizabeth Nurse, Marie Kubiak, Lorraine Silke, Glen Devereux, Redmond (Red) Maddock, Thomas (Tony) O’Donnell, Bernard Welch and Lyal Moko Rangiaho. |
