Xmas in the Park on 29 Nov

When Rosanna Hewson steps on stage to sing Noel and open this year’s Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, she will be the popular event’s youngest soloist.

The Christchurch nine-year-old was selected from more than 100 hopefuls who auditioned for the Saturday 29 November show at Hagley Park, which promises to be a Christmas cracker packed full of music, dancing, fun and fireworks.

The City Council-supported show features popular New Zealand entertainers and emerging talent — from contemporary hip-hop to gospel. Among those joining hosts Simon Barnett and Gary McCormick are Ray Woolf, Suzy Cato, Phil Madsen, Jennifer Ward Lealand, Jackie Clarke and Taisha.

They’ll share the stage with plenty of young Christchurch talent, including Theo and Lapi Mariner and their energetic hip hop rhythms, Glen Drake, Ahi Kaa and their stunning vocal harmonies, Amy Bowie, Taylor Cairns and Paul Sharplin. Proceeds from the show will benefit the national youth development service Youthline. Youthline aims to raise enough funds to allow the Youth Help Line to be a 24-hour, seven-day a week service.
