New libraries' look
June will bring a new
look to two of Christchurch City
Libraries community services — the Mobile Library and Hornby Library. The Mobile Library will be off the road for refurbishment from 19 May to 22
June. Normal service will resume on Monday 23 June. “We know how much our customers value our mobile service and we’ll try to keep inconvenience to a minimum,” says Christchurch City Libraries Outreach and Special Needs Manager, Erina Parks. “We’re encouraging mobile customers to take extra books before the service closes and will be making special arrangements with customers who use our talking book service and those who have placed reserves. “It will all be worth it though. This is the first refurbishment for the Mobile Library in 13 years and it will be great to have fresh look.” Return boxes will still be cleared weekly. Customers of Hornby Library will be able to take advantage of their new-look library on 16 June. Improvements will include new shelves, flooring, an interior paint and more room for displays. An added bonus will be the installation of automatic doors at the entrance to the library. “We’re quite excited about the changes,” says Roberta MacLean, Hornby Community Librarian. “We’ll be able to offer our customers a much more inviting place to visit.” To accommodate the changes Hornby Library will close from 19 May to 15 June. During that period customers are advised to collect any reserves from Fendalton Library, although items will still be able to be returned to Hornby Library. Alternatively customers can phone 941 7923 to make arrangements to pick these up from another library. To make the process easier for customers, all items loaned from the end of April have had a longer loan period applied, meaning customers will not have to return them until after the library re-opens. |
