Fendalton Road upgrade update

Fendalton Road upgrade update
Looking towards the city centre from opposite Snowdon Avenue: The median island between Glandovey Road and Straven Road is currently under construction and the south-side carriageway has new asphalt.

The upgrading of Fendalton Road is progressing well and within the estimated time-frame.

“This month we are working on paving the north-side carriage-way between Glandovey and Clyde Roads, finishing off the sewerage work, and we should have the new traffic lights at the Glandovey -Fendalton intersection operating,” says Doug Forsyth, Project Manager at Works Infrastructure, the Council’s contractors. “Grass has been sewn on the central median island from Straven Road to the railway line but we are waiting until August to put in the trees — that is the best time of the season for planting them,” Doug says.

Over the last month, work on the west section of Fendalton Road (from Glandovey Road to Clyde Road) included excavation and backfill of the north-side carriage-way, new street lights and new traffic lights at the Glandovey-Fendalton Road intersection.

The section of Fendalton Road east from Glandovey to Straven Road now has new parking bays from Tui Street to Heathfield Avenue, new street lighting poles (except on the north side from Glandovey Road to Heathfield Avenue), a new central median island and a new asphalt surface on the south side with paving work under way.

West of Waiwhetu Street there is new stormwater and kerbing work.
