South Library seminar

South Christchurch residents will have the opportunity to hear about the new South Christchurch Library, Service Centre and South Learning Centre on Wednesday 23 July at a public seminar at the Cashmere Club, at 7pm. “We’d love our neighbours and members of the community to come along, meet those involved in the construction of the building and find out about its exciting features,” says Christchurch City Libraries Manager Sue Sutherland

Speakers will include representatives from the library, Beckenham Service Centre, the learning centre, Warren and Mahoney, Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board and owners of the café Cup, who will be running the South Christchurch Library café.

Finishing touches are being put to the South Christchurch Library, Service Centre and South Learning Centre on the corner of Colombo St and Hunter Terrace, which will be officially opened on Saturday 23 August.

Sustainability is one of the key themes of the Warren and Mahoney designed building: a feature requested by the community during the Council’s consultation phase on the facility. The design minimises waste and energy use as well as use of non-sustainable and toxic materials. The complex is being built by Mainzeal Property and Construction on Christchurch City Council land formerly occupied by the Beckenham Service Centre.
