A different approach to Arbor Day

This year the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board decided to do something different with schools in their area to commemorate Arbor Day. West Spreydon School and Waltham School were invited to take part in the planting of fruit trees and berry bushes within their grounds and both schools enthusiastically accepted. The schools were visited by the Parks and Waterways Area Advocate and a member of the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board.

An area was set aside to create a garden and the children were then involved in planting the bushes and trees at a planting day. The pupils will continue to look after and maintain the garden. The children who took part in the planting at West Spreydon School were all very excited about their new garden and cannot wait until they can sample some of their crops. Waltham School has also been organising its planting. Arbor Day was 5 June. This project was funded and supported by the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board.
