Garden Gala for older adults at Riccarton house, 5 March
The beautiful grounds of Riccarton House is the
place to be on Wednesday, 5 March from 11am-
3pm, when older adults get together for a free
day of fun, entertainment and a variety of have-ago
leisure opportunities. This event, at 16 Kahu Road, has
something for everyone. It is funded
by the Riccarton/Wigram
Community Board and Christchurch
City Council Leisure. The Garden Gala event begins at
11am with a range of have-a-go
activities — Oamaru stone sculpting,
spinning and weaving, petanque, a
seated gentle exercise
demonstration or the gentle pace of
Tai Chi, or surfing the web with
SeniorNet. On display will be arts and crafts and the
Riccarton Community Library will be giving away
free book parcels. From 1-3pm there will be entertainment by the
Christchurch Scottish Country Dancers,
Christchurch Rock n Roll Club, and the School of
Contemporary Bellydance. The grande finale is by
50s Up Brass Band which has more than 40
members whose average age is 68 years. This is
the band’s 10th anniversary. From 11.30am to 1.30pm short tours of the
restored heritage Riccarton House
will be available. The Riccarton
House Café has a variety of
refreshments, or guests are welcome
to bring their lunch or afternoon tea
and a picnic chair. “We have endeavoured to build
upon the range of activities from last
year’s event to ensure that Garden
Gala 2003 is an enjoyable and fun
afternoon for everyone” says
organiser Jacqui Leask. |
