Colwyn Ave tree planting

Colwyn Ave tree planting

Street trees should be planted soon in Colwyn Avenue, thanks to a survey carried out by pupils from Aorangi School.

The City Council’s Fendalton Advocacy Team approached Aorangi School in Colwyn Avenue with a proposal for pupils to survey the avenue’s residents to see if they would be happy for trees to be planted as part of the team’s community enhancement programme.

School Principal Jeanette Shearer used the project for the school’s Community Pride Programme, which won an award from Keep Christchurch Beautiful.

The children designed a questionnaire which was distributed to the residents, and then collated all the information and presented it to the Advocacy Team. Of those who replied, 65 per cent were in favour of street trees and 82% said they would help look after the trees.

“The results and the presentation far exceeded our expectations,” says Community Advocate Tony Gemmill. “Congratulations Aorangi School.”
