Saving the old church on the corner

On the corner of Brougham and Colombo streets there is a church. It was built as the Wesleyan Methodist Church for the Sydenham community in 1877-78. In 2001 the Sydenham Heritage Trust formed to buy and save the church from demolition. Its focus has been on restoring the historic building for community use.

The Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board has been supporting the trust.

This year the Board has earmarked $19,000 to go towards providing toilets for user groups. The Trust hopes the building will soon be available for community use.

  • The Friends of Sydenham Heritage Church group has been formed to support the trust and its objectives. It has a hands-on role in the care and administration of the church. For more details contact Dorothy on 338 5142
