Message from the Chair

— Yvonne Palmer
Chair, Shirley/Papanui Community Board

The Shirley/Papanui Community Board has had a very busy and interesting year. Our vision is to continue providing facilities and services to the community with an emphasis on safety and to continue to develop our community.

The board had been involved in the following projects:

  • Redevelopment of Northlands
  • Roading changes from Sawyers Arms Road to Harewood Road
  • Living Streets in East Papanui
  • Redevelopment of The Palms
  • Papanui swimming pool and community facility
  • Toilet block at St Albans Park
  • Redevelopment of Owen Mitchell Park
  • Community events, eg Garden Awards, Heritage Awards, Community Service Awards, Children's Day
  • Continue to lead the way with Neighbourhood Week (1-7 November 2003)
  • Belfast consultation on planning for next 40 years
  • Northern roading options (we encourage the community to make submissions on all roading proposals)
  • St Pauls Anglican Church 150 years celebrations
  • Shirley Networking — Shirley Trust, youth events
  • Continue to encourage residents to be active in Neighbourhood Support Groups and to participate in Papanui Community Watch

As Christchurch City Council has a long-term planning for capital projects our board continues to submit large projects into the long-term budget.

The community board, with limited funding, continues to meet the majority of needs in our community but we always appreciate residents bringing their concerns and vision to the board.

Yvonne Palmer, Chair, Shirley/Papanui Community Board
