Caravan and camping club
The McLeans Island Caravan and
Camping Club was formed 23 years ago
by a small group of caravan enthusiasts,
and the area of the camp at McLeans
Island covers 17ha. The club, at 771 McLeans Island Road,
is fortunate to have recently received a
grant from the Fendalton/Waimairi
Community Board as a contribution
toward upgrading the facilities. The clubs amenities include a
clubhouse with kitchen and two toilet
blocks, showers and laundry. All work
on the ground is carried out by voluntary
labour. The club has a cross section of
members, from young to old. The older
members sometimes find it a bit hard to
tow their vans around the country but
find it an advantage to belong to our
club which is an easy driving distance
from the city so they can still enjoy the
caravanning and the company of fellow
campers. Members have planted all the trees and
shrubs on the grounds and some
members have developed lawns and
gardens around their vans. Once a month the club holds a night
of entertainment that is always well
attended. This includes outside
entertainment, mid-winter and Christmas
dinners, and childrenfs parties. |
