Regular Burwood briefings scheduled

City Council Solid Waste Manager Simon Collin talking about developments at the landfill with nearby residents.

Keeping the community up to date about developments and operations at the Burwood Landfill is the aim of regular briefings organised by the Community Board and staff from the Councilfs City Water and Waste Unit.

The briefings are being held every three months.

At the most recent meeting, in March, about 20 residents turned up at the landfill. Solid Waste Manager Simon Collin talked about trials being done to minimise unpleasant odours from leaving the site and investigations into catching and using the biogas arising from the site. They also saw a test area that was been covered with a thin biodegradable cover and new fencing and tall gravel banks built up around the site to help make sure no material is being blown off it.

  • The next briefing will be on 20 May, from 5pm in the Parklands Community Centre on Queenspark Drive. For more information, phone Kaye Edens on 941 8999.
