McDougall and Museum
A
fter considering submissions, the City Council has decided to lease the
city’s old art gallery, the Robert McDougall, to the Canterbury Museum
to be used as a “gallery principally for the display of art and decorative
arts and crafts”. To do that, it will ask Parliament to pass a local Bill
to allow the changes to be made. The Council heard that the Botanic Gardens entrance will be maintained
and the building will become known as the Robert McDougall Gallery. About
200 submissions came in with opinions about the gallery’s future use,
with about 150 supporting it being allied to the Museum. |
