City Mall moves afoot

Council staff are looking at development options for City Mall following a survey of business owners and people who visit the area. Over the next three years the Council has allocated money to upgrade City Mall and the survey was designed to help in planning for that work.

The results point to several areas where users and business owners think attention is needed.

Some said the Mall is quite dated and needs upgrading and that more colour is needed.

Suggestions included sculpture and flowers as well as more regular cleaning and rubbish removal. Some of those surveyed thought the ban on vehicles, skateboards and cycles should be extended.

Also mentioned was signage. Some wanted the Council to look at a co-ordinated signage system.

Others thought the Mall area needed better signage to show where things are.

Staff working on the project want to thank the business people and members of the public who took the time to answer their questions.
