Kids’ Market: a chance for children to learn how to trade, sell and deal with the public.
One of the most popular events of TV2 KidsFest is the Kids’ Market.

It will be held in Cathedral Square on Tuesday 10 July (if wet Wednesday 11) and is suitable for children from five to 12. It will cost $2 a child and proceeds will go to the Canterbury branch of Heart Children.

Children will sell their old toys, books, sports gear, and they might bake or create their own crafts for sale.

Children are not permitted to sell commercial products or items on behalf of adults. Adults are allowed to supervise but not sell or handle the money.

Kids’ Market is an educational experience for children and this year’s Market will be the twelfth organised by Joe and Gloria Verweij, who manage the weekly Cathedral Square market.

Gloria says Kids’ Market was created to give children a chance to learn how to trade, sell and to learn how to deal with the public.

Competition for the best presented stall or a fun hat gives children a chance to display their artistic talents.

Goods not sold at the Market are donated to the Kids’ Market Charitable Trust. These are collected by Ted Jessett who later delivers them to wards and waiting rooms of the Christchurch and Burwood hospitals.

Many volunteers help with the Market each year but Gloria could do with more.

She says wants volunteers to help set up in the morning and clear away in evening.

Contact for sites - Gloria Verweij on 365 2632.

Sites are limited and stallholders must register in Cathedral Square on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 July, 10am-3pm.

Cancellation of Kids’ Market on Newstalk ZB 1098 at 8am and 8.30am.
