Entries wanted for environmental awards


Suggestions are being sought by the City Council for buildings, individuals, groups or companies that are worthy of receiving an Environmental Award this year.

The awards are in three broad categories: Built Environment, Natural Environment, and Services to the Environment.

One award is made in each category.

The Council’s Environment Committee makes the annual awards in recognition of outstanding contributions to the city’s environment. This is the fourth year of the awards and previous winners are:
1998 —
Built: Christ’s College;
Natural: Peacock Springs.

1999 —
Built: Broadoaks subdivision;
Natural: Riccarton Bush;
Services: Summit Road Society.

2000 —
Built: New Brighton Pier-library-clock tower;
Natural: McLeans Island recreational area;
Services: Christchurch Beautifying Association.

Applications will close on Friday 27 July and on Monday 6 August the judges will inspect the finalists before reporting to on Thursday 27 September.

An awards ceremony will be held on Friday 28 September.
