Improving parks and waterways Submissions are being sought by the City Council on how to improve the city’s parks and waterways. A draft Parks and Waterways Access Policy aims to overcome barriers to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the city’s parks and open space and specifically caters for people with disabilities, the elderly and caregivers with young children. The policy requires that new facilities are built to accessible standards specified in the policy and that existing facilities are upgraded over time as funding allows. Specifications are included for paths and tracks, entrances, toilets, drinking fountains, signs and information boards and playgrounds. Submissions and comments are sought from the public on this draft policy before 31 August. Copies of the policy are available from the Council’s Parks and Waterways Unit.
