Register avoids weed attack Weeds are constantly under attack in the city. Patrols, on motorbikes, continually look for weeds to kill in city streets. They pass each property about four times a year and weeds on footpaths, in channels, or on paved islands in roads are sprayed with herbicide. Those used are the safest available. However, the City Council maintains a "no-spray" register of addresses where the residents do not want spraying carried out. They receive stickers, which they can display, and the contractor marks the kerb with the no-spray sign at a point where it will be seen by the weed-killing patrols. At no-spray properties the Council asks that residents control any weeds themselves. If the weeds get out of hand the Council contacts householders before any control spaying is done.
