Glamour and country fun For a special taste of what Canterbury has to offer, Showtime Canterbury brings a unique variety of glamour and provincial fun. From Wednesday 15 November to Saturday 18 November, The Canterbury Show offers residents and visitors the opportunity to experience a slice of country life. Animals of all shapes and sizes will join the sideshows and trade exhibits, the Carnival and Grand Parade, to delight the whole family. Racing highlights at Addington include the Canterbury Draught New Zealand Trotting Cup Day on Tuesday 14 November. Over 12 races will be presented, with the feature being the $350,000 Cup, raced over 3,200 metres. For those well-dressed attendees, there will be an opportunity to compete in the Lindaur/The Press Best Dressed Lady and The Rembrandt/Ballantynes Best Dressed Man competitions with some fabulous prizes to be won. Don't forget to wear a hat! Air New Zealand Race Day on Friday 17 includes 12 harness races and free amusement rides for the kids. "The Christchurch Mail" Best Dressed Mother and Daughter and Best Dressed Father and Son competition will be a great excuse for the whole family to dress up. Riccarton Park Racecourse presents Ladies Day on Saturday 11 November with a group 1 rating and a purse of $120,000. Guineas Day on Wednesday 15 November also presents the very best three year old fillies. Cup Day on Saturday 18 November will be the 136th held since 1865. High stake races will join the Air New Zealand Fashion in the Field competition in an atmosphere of magic, glamour and excitement. On Sunday 5 November at New Brighton Pier, Christchurch City Council and Meridian Energy present a breathtaking fireworks spectacular.
