A ‘crate’ success!

Over the past 12 months Christchurch residents have put 13,500 tonnes of recyclable materials out for collection.

This is a 14 per cent increase in materials, compared with the previous 12 months.

And it is well over the estimated 12,500 tonnes the Council thought would be recovered.

The quality of materials has been improving too, with less rubbish and fewer dirty items.

This is what can be put out for collection:
  • Plastics (with "1" and milk bottles), rinsed and squashed
  • Cans, rinsed and squashed
  • Bottles, rinsed
  • Egg cartons and trays
  • Cardboard, flattened, tied in bundles and placed next to crates
  • Newspaper, dry and in plastic bags on top of crates.
