Christchurch City Council: Rated AA by international credit agency Standard and Poors

Want to be Mayor?

If you want to be mayor of Christchurch or serve our City as a councillor or community board member, you need to be nominated by August 28.

First you have to have a couple of qualifications:

You don't have to be a ratepayer or resident in the ward you wish to stand for, says the Council's returning officer, Max Robertson. And you don't even have to live in Christchurch to offer yourself as a candidate.

However, there are some things you can't do. In particular, you can't seek 'multiple nomination': In Christchurch this means you can be nominated as a candidate for councillor in only one ward of the city.

You can be nominated as a candidate for community board member in only one of the two wards forming each board area.

If you're nominated as a candidate for the regional council you can't stand as a candidate for mayor, city councillor or community board member, and vice versa.

Election day is Saturday 10 October. To vote you also have to be on the Electoral Roll, by August 28. Check the preliminary roll at Council Offices, Libraries or New Zealand Post Shops. If you are not listed, Telephone 0800 367 656 for an application form.

For more information phone Max Robertson on 374 3292.
