Christchurch City Council and Transit
New Zealand are proposing to change some speed limits in
Christchurch and want your views.
Roads affected include:
- State Highways 1 and 74/Main North
Road and Cranford Street from Dickeys Road to 300m north
of McFaddens Road where it is proposed to change the 50
and 70 km/h speed limits to a constant 60 km/h.
- Halswell Road from Dunbars Road to
Candys Road where it is proposed to change the 50 and 70
km/h speed limits to a constant 60 km/h.
- Linwood Avenue from Jollie Street
to Dyers Road where it is proposed to change the 50 and
70km/h limits to a constant 60km/h.
- Carmen, Masham and Russley Roads
between Yaldhurst Road and Buchanans Road where it is
proposed to change the 50 and 70 km/h speed limits to a
constant 60 km/h.
- Wigram Road from Treffers Road to
Awatea Road where it is proposed to change the open road
speed limit (100km/h) to 80 km/h.
- Wigram Road from Awatea Road to
Halswell Junction Road where it is proposed to change the
open road speed limit (100km/h) to 70 km/h.
- Halswell Junction Road from Springs
Road to Alvaston Place where it is proposed to change the
open road speed limit (100km/h) to 80 km/h.
- Halswell Junction Road from
Alvaston Place to Halswell Road where it is proposed to
change the 50 km/h speed limit to 60 km/h.
- Ensors Road from Ferry Road to
Brougham Street where it is proposed to change the 50
km/h limit to 60 km/h to be consistent with Brougham
Street.
Other roads where it is proposed to
lower the existing open road speed limits (100km/h) include:
Shands Road, Main North Road (between Dickeys Road and Chaneys
Corner), Awatea Road, Wilmers Road, Carrs Road, McTeague Road and
Haytons Road.
