Cathedral Square on schedule

Work has started on Christchurch City Council's $8.3 million project to redevelop Cathedral Square. Stage One of the redevelopment, in the north west corner of the Square around Chancery Arcade, will result in new bus stops, shelters, paving and landscaping. Construction, carried out by local contractors BD Construction, will be staged to minimise disruption to the City's focal point and most important gathering place. Completion of the whole project is scheduled for October 1999.

Centennial Pool redevelopment on schedule

These three members of the NZ Surf lifesaving team are looking forward to the opening of the Christchurch City Council's new leisure and fitness complex on the Centennial Pool site next year. Construction work is due to start in May and is scheduled for completion in April 1999. The new complex will feature a six lane fitness pool, leisure pool, swirl pool, sauna and steam rooms and a fitness centre.

Another pool soon to be upgraded is at the Pioneer Complex. A new leisure pool is being constructed.
