New electric buses on route

Three futuristic electric buses will become a feature of Christchurch streets when a free electric shuttle service starts in the spring.

Built by Ashburton coachbuilders Designline Ltd and operated by Christchurch Transport Ltd for the Christchurch City Council, the buses will leave every ten minutes, linking the Town Hall/Convention Centre/Casino with Science Alive/Hoyts 8 by travelling along Colombo Street. With seating for 20 passengers, super low floor access and space for wheelchairs, the shuttles will run between 8am and 10.30pm, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Budgeted at $450,000 per annum, the shuttle service is part of the Council's commitment to developing convenient, environmentally friendly transport systems.
