Conference of 6000 comes to Christchurch
The benefits of
the new Convention Centre have become obvious with the 34th
congress of the International Union of Physiological
Sciences which will be held in Christchurch at the new
Convention Centre in the year 2001. Held every four years, the congress will bring up to 6,000 of the world's top scientists to the City. According to NZ Physiological Conference Society spokesperson Rodger Pack, the main congress will be held in late August 2001, lasting for five days. This will be preceded and followed by a series of 'satellite' meetings throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Rim. The New Zealand Tourist Board estimates the congress will bring $24 million into the New Zealand economy; mostly to Canterbury. |
