Christchurch Voted 9th best Tourist City in the World 1997: "Travel & Leisure" magazine

City Plan goes electronic

Developers, lawyers, surveyors, architects and anyone else with an interest in Christchurch can now access the Christchurch City Plan on CD-Rom.

Published by Electronic Reference Information Ltd (ERI), the Folio Views for Windows-based electronic plan consists of four volumes with over 960 pages of text divided into 32 major topics, 76 "chapters" and hundreds of sub-sections.

"This is a quick and user-friendly way to refer to the City Plan. Searching can be applied within a volume or across all volumes. There are thousands of cross-references managed by hypertext link, and every word carrying a legal meaning has the relevant definition carried in a pop-up, where the word occurs.

"As well as text, 132 maps sit in object windows, with each relevant feature or rule context sensitised back to the relevant text," said electronic publisher Mike Gough, who co-ordinated development of the electronic plan for ERI and the Council.
