Looking after the interests of schools

Christchurch schools have a new voice when it comes to traffic safety.

Lee Kelly has become Road Safety Advocate at the Christchurch City Council. Her role is to ensure that the needs of schools are considered in all traffic engineering and roading projects planned or carried out by the Council.

In her new role, Lee says her aim is to work with schools to identify possible areas of difficulty and liaise with the Council's traffic engineers to ensure they do not overlook the particular problems experienced by schools.

"Areas of special concern will be where speed limits are changed and where the safety of children to and from school might be affected by work or developments of particular roads," she says.

Schools wishing to discuss road safety issues with Lee should call her on 941 8355.
