Convention Centre Up and Running
Over 20,000 people visited the new Christchurch Convention Centre during its open weekend in March. Since then a steady stream of schools, community groups and other interested parties have been impressed by the new facility.

The Convention Centre hosted its first major
conference two weeks after opening when 280 delegates
from 16 countries attended the Eighth International
Dental Congress on Modern Pain Control. In May it will host over 400 delegates for the Australia and New Zealand Conference of Anaesthesia. Then the Antarctic Treaty Conference will bring up to 250 senior government officials from 43 countries to Christchurch to discuss environmental issues and sustainable management of Antarctica. Bookings stretch out as far as the year 2001. |
